Breaking Ground on the Togo Project!

Last spring, we launched the No Mom Left Behind Campaign to raise funds to support maternal and child health. Last May the campaign raised funds to support women in Northern Togo, which has been called the saddest place on earth by the UN Global Happiness Report three years in a row. Thanks to your tremendous support the 30/30 Project and Construction for Change will be breaking ground NEXT WEEK on a new maternity ward and clinic renovation in the Kara region of Togo! We are excited to have the opportunity to partner with our friends at Hope Through Health on this project. HTH’s Maternal and Child Health program aims to provide proactive care to mothers and children in a country where one in 58 women die in childbirth. The maternity ward is a one floor expansion of the current facility, which will provide women with a waiting room, midwife office, hospitalization room, labor and delivery room, newborn care room, midwife overnight watch room, birth attendant overnight watch room and a common office. This expansion will increase the percentage of women having facility-based deliveries from 33 percent to 85 percent. Once this facility is renovated, the existing clinic can be better utilized to serve the community while the maternity ward will provide moms with care before, during and after childbirth. Not only will women in Togo have a chance for a safe and positive childbirth outcome, but with prenatal care, HIV+ women will have access to medications to keep their children HIV-free!
