About 30/30 Project

The 30/30 Project is a partnership between the Lewis family and Construction for Change, improving access to comprehensive healthcare by building 30 medical facilities worldwide. The 30/30 Project and CfC are partnering with local on-the-ground organizations to help build and eventually operate and staff the health facilities with qualified professional healthcare providers. These partners include Partners in Health, Integrate Health, The Foundation for International Medical Relief of Children and other non‐profit organizations that serve women, children, and their families.

The 30/30 Project’s mission is to bring access to quality, affordable healthcare to those who need it most. Our five-year initiative completed the funding and selection of the 30th project in June 2019, bringing the endeavor to a close.

We believe that healthcare
is a human right.

Our Story

Julie Lewis, a 30 year HIV survivor, and mother to Ryan of Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, founded the 30/30 Project to improve access to comprehensive healthcare in communities impacted by HIV/AIDS by fundraising and building 30 medical facilities worldwide.

In 1984, Julie Lewis gave birth to her first daughter, Teresa. Due to a complicated pregnancy, she needed a blood transfusion and was infected with HIV. When she was finally diagnosed in 1990, she was given only a few years to live. By that time she had already given birth to two other children, Laura and Ryan, who both had a 25% chance of being born HIV+, but they were extremely fortunate (today, the risk of a mother passing HIV to her baby is 2% or less if she is being treated). Thanks to advanced medicine and healthcare available here in the U.S. Julie has lived despite her odds.

30 years later, in 2014, Julie had outlived her prognosis. Wanting to find a way to celebrate her amazing journey, and use her passion for community health, she launched the 30/30 Project to positively impact the lives of other women, girls, and families who haven’t had the same access to the healthcare opportunities that she’s had.
