About Kizimani

“Kizimani,” a Swahili word whose root means “by the water well,” was founded by two Kenyan sisters, Miriam and Janet, and their mother, Monica, to find sustainable and culturally relevant ways to help impoverished communities break the cycle of poverty. Today, they are on a mission to build strong communities throughout Kenya, provide sustainable infrastructures and create economic opportunities in poor and AIDS affected areas of the world. About the Facility

The Kangundo Clinic will serve thousands of people in the community who now lack basic medical care. The project is designed with sensitivity towards the social fabric and culture of the region by creating a large shaded gathering area that encourages public interaction while providing privacy for the patients. The plan is divided into four exam rooms, storage room and a covered gathering area. The floor will be concrete, the main structure will be steel and the walls will be made from hand-made bricks-all materials found locally, and typically used in construction. The project is designed to promote natural ventilation through building for cooling, with large overhangs to provide shade for those waiting.
